Semliki Valley Wildlife reserve
A prime conservation area deep in western Ugandas rift valley, Semliki is where the savanna grasslands meet Central African tropical rain forests and is the site of the Sempaya hot water springs, named after a river on the Congolese border. The reserve is teeming with a wide range of wildlife including forest buffalo, a darker leopard sub-species and forest elephants. Key savanna species of East Africa found here are the lion, numerous antelope species, warthog, buffalo, chimpazee communities etc. The unique birdlife includes endemic species as well as with both southern and northern migrants and includes the rare and elusive shoebill which nests in the shallows of lake Albert.
