Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
In the south west of the country, 500 kms west of Kampala, this national park is the only forest in Africa where gorillas and chimpanzees occur together. Bwindi is on the edge of the Western Rift Valley and hosts more than half of the world population of mountain gorillas is currently estimated at just over 600. In addition to the gorillas and chimps this ancient rainforest (estimated at over 25,000 years old), is home to approximately 93 species of mammals and over 360 species of birdlife.
