People and Culture

The central area is largely Bantu-speaking with the large and historically highly centralized kingdom of Buganda, the smaller western Ugandan kingdoms of Bunyoro, Nkore and Toro, and the Busoga states. The Northern tribes are Nilotic in origin, and they include Iteso, Langi, Acholi, Alur, Jie, Madi, and Lugbara. Among the Indigenous groups in Uganda are pygmy hunter gatherer communities (the Batwa and the Benet) in some forest areas, and the nomadic Karamajong and the remote mountain tribe – the Ik. More than 30 languages are spoken in Uganda- with English, Luganda and Swahili being the most widely used.

The primary occupation of the people of Uganda is agriculture. The National clothing of Uganda is the colorful Saris  regarded as Busuti or Gomasi. Throughout the year clothing at Uganda is predominantly light casual clothes. the weather is warm and humid in most parts of the country. Matooke (steamed bananas) is the most common food in Uganda, accompanied with chicken, beef, fish, mutton and goat meat. other aspects of interest are sports, British inspired education system, shopping and a vibrant nightlife.
